The 4th of July - U.S.S. Midway

On the U.S.S. Midway - there is a large statue in the background that depicts the iconic Time magazine photo of the sailor coming home from war and kissing his sweetie.

We enjoyed a great day at the aircraft carrier - U.S.S. Midway that is stationed in San Diego Bay. It was commissioned right after WWII and was used in Vietnam and as the control center for Desert Storm. We thought it would be a quick tour, but we ended up staying for almost 5 hours. It is an amazing place - a floating city. What a great day to visit, too - the 4th! We were privileged to meet several veterans who had been on the Midway during their time in the Navy. It was such an honor to meet them and thank them for their service to our country. It was great because it was an individual audio set for each visitor. We were able to hear great stories from different sailors and their particular jobs on board (cooks, doctors, machinists, the captain etc.) A GREAT way to spend the 4th!
