Randy doesn't usually sleep in the car - this was a rare moment and we had to capture.
(He gave me permission to put this up :))
As we were leaving the L.A. area, we were trying to figure out what we wanted to do, where we actually were etc...Jerry pulled over into a residential area to try to get his iTouch GPS deal to register where we were. This neighborhood had lots of shrubs right at the street, so that you couldn't see the actual houses. At the gate of one of the houses, we saw what was probably a paparazzi (is that the singular form?) with a telescopic lens trying to take pictures over the gate. We figured that we were probably near where some celebrities live. Finally, we figured out where we were going and as the GPS turned us around, we came around the corner and saw a group of a couple of hundred people gathered...in this residential area. They were lined on both sides of the street, so that we were still able to drive past. As we slowly drove past, we realized that we were at the house where Michael Jackson died. There were hundreds of bouquets of flowers, posters, and sadly, people hugging each other weeping loudly. I saw those images of people crying on t.v., but it is really something to see it in person. It is so eye-opening to see what the world and our culture values and the impact of death on those that don't have hope. (We were also really amazed at how we just happened upon it - it was really off the beaten path.)
